New Grades and Insert Geometry for Cast Iron Turning

September 1, 2004

HOUSTON - Three new insert grades and a new chip-control geometry are the latest innovations from American National Carbide (ANC) for the cast iron turning ISO K area.

The three new grades are: AN2015 for roughing and medium machining of gray cast iron, AN3020 for light roughing of cast irons, and AN3005 for semi-finishing and finishing of cast irons where wear resistance is required instead of toughness. All three grades feature thick multi-layered ceramic CVD coatings.

The new KR chip-control geometry is now ANC's first choice for cast iron roughing. The geometry is designed to withstand demanding cutting conditions, reduce vibration and power consumption, and lower cutting forces and noise levels during machining.
